Tragedy struck in Canoga Park early Friday morning when a man, who was walking across Sherman Way, was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver now identified as Marvin Edgardo Pineda, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department and the LA Fire Department responded to emergency calls around 1:15 a.m. to find the man pronounced dead at the scene, marking another sobering instance of vehicular negligence on the city's streets.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department's statement, the initial investigation indicated that the pedestrian was not within a crosswalk and that Pineda, driving a black Mercedes-Benz, fled the scene after the collision. Pineda, a 29-year-old Northridge resident, later returned to the scene, was interviewed by detectives, and consequently arrested for felony hit-and-run.
