As institutions that dutifully handle sensitive student and staff data, schools have become increasingly attractive to cybercriminals. Recognizing this growing threat, Gov. DeWine and CyberOhio, alongside the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) and the Management Council of the Ohio Education Computer Network, are poised to better equip schools with the necessary tools to thwart potential cyberattacks.
The key component of this initiative is the implementation of TechGuard, an educational platform designed to train and test school personnel on cybersecurity best practices, from identifying phishing attempts to safeguarding against ransomware. "Protecting our schools and equipping our teachers with training to help them identify and report cyberattacks helps makes our schools safer and stronger," Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said, as reported by a recent press release. Specifically, the TechGuard program will provide online training to improve the cyber awareness of school staff and students alike, according to the official announcement.
