The Department of Justice recently announced a major crackdown on child sex abuse across the nation, leading to the arrests of 205 offenders and the rescue of 115 children. The operation, dubbed "Operation Restore Justice," was an FBI-led initiative involving all 55 of the agency's field offices and numerous other law enforcement partners. Over a focused five-day period, agents and officers worked together to bring to justice those accused of exploiting children, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

"The Department of Justice will never stop fighting to protect victims — especially child victims — and we will not rest until we hunt down, arrest, and prosecute every child predator who preys on the most vulnerable among us," Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office press release. FBI Director Kash Patel echoed Bondi's sentiment, emphasizing the FBI's commitment to "be relentless in our pursuit of those who exploit the most vulnerable among us." Notably, the operation was conducted in partnership with various state and local agencies, ensuring a broad and coordinated approach to safeguard children.

In Hawaii, two people were arrested as part of a nationwide operation targeting child exploitation. Dominick Kalikokaeoeo Howard was charged with distributing child pornography, while David Martin Garcia Perez was charged with receiving, possessing, or accessing it. These arrests highlight the operation’s broad impact, which included charges for producing, sharing, and possessing child sexual abuse material, as well as trafficking minors, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The operation has brought to light some disturbing instances of abuse, including cases involving a state trooper and Army Reservist out of Minneapolis arrested for allegedly producing child sexual abuse material in their uniforms, and a former Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officer taken in over trafficking minor victims. The FBI's collaborative efforts with local law enforcement were highlighted by FBI Honolulu Special Agent in Charge David Porter who stated, "Our collaboration with state and local law enforcement allows us to extend our reach into communities, respond faster to threats, and ensure survivors get the support they need," as obtained by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Following National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, Operation Restore Justice is part of the Justice Department's ongoing Project Safe Childhood initiative to battle the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Public awareness continues to play a crucial role, evidenced by arrests resulting from tips after community education efforts. The U.S. Attorney's Office also coordinates with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to manage a hotline for reports of child exploitation. The public is encouraged to stay vigilant and report suspected exploitation to the FBI's tipline or local FBI field office.
