After more than four decades of service, the Parkway Center Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh is set to shut down this summer, ending a long-standing relationship with the community. Giant Eagle officials stated that the grocery store's closure is scheduled for June 28. A news release quoted by CBS News Pittsburgh indicates that the company couldn't renew its lease, which, combined with the considerable investment required for the store and its vicinity, led to the decision not to continue operating at the location.

Moving forward, the Parkway Center Giant Eagle's pharmacy will cease operations ahead of the main store, closing on May 21. Customers can have their prescriptions transferred to other Giant Eagle pharmacy locations of their choice, a transition that the company aims to make seamless. In a statement cited by WTAE, Giant Eagle assured that all 75 employees of the Parkway Center store will be offered positions at nearby stores under their umbrella, demonstrating a commitment to their workforce amidst the closure.

The Parkway Center Giant Eagle has been the sole retailer at the site since the accompanying Parkway Center Mall closed in 2013. This supermarket has played a pivotal role in Pittsburgh's retail landscape since its inception in 1982.

Last year, Giant Eagle opened a new store at a former Shop’n Save site on Noblestown Road in Pittsburgh, a mere seven minutes' drive from its Parkway Center location.
