
A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening, along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in Long Beach, resulting in the death of a 47-year-old pedestrian. According to reports from CBS News, the accident happened near the intersection of PCH and Santa Fe Avenue.
Long Beach Police Department disclosed that the Ontario man was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk at approximately 9:00 p.m. when a car struck him. In a statement obtained by the Long Beach Police Department, they clarified that a 2016 Toyota Scion, driven by a 27-year-old Wilmington resident, was the first to hit the pedestrian. Moments after, the man was struck by a second vehicle, a 2008 Mazda 3 driven by a 50-year-old Long Beach resident. Both collisions occurred as the vehicles were traveling westbound on PCH.
Authorities have noted that neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving is suspected as a factor in the fatal event. The two drivers involved cooperated with law enforcement at the scene, and an investigation by the Collision Investigation Detail detectives is currently ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, as disclosed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.
