Pelsan Tekstil A.S., a leading producer of breathable film technologies, has selected Goldsboro in Wayne County for its first U.S. production facility. As announced by the Office of the Governor, the project is expected to create 216 jobs and represents an $82.6 million investment in the local economy. The Turkish manufacturer is expanding into North America to address increasing demand for its products in the hygiene and medical industries.

"North Carolina is pleased to welcome Pelsan as it opens its first facility in the United States," Governor Stein stated in a press release. Attracting a company like Pelsan, North Carolina's East Coast location combined with its skilled workforce presents itself as an efficient hub for production and distribution. A subsidiary of the seasoned Hassan Group, Pelsan has been pioneering breathable polyethylene films since 2006, landing as the first company in Turkey to produce these specialized materials.

In a narrative of investment and growth, CEO Ali Sisman describes the expansion as a key strategic step. "Our decision to invest in North Carolina underscores our belief in the region’s strong workforce, robust infrastructure, and its alignment with our values of innovation and collaboration," Sisman told the Governor's office. "This journey of transformation and progress is not just ours, but one we share with every individual seeking change, growth, and a better tomorrow." Local leaders share this view, recognizing the move as a boost to the region's economic growth.

The state's Economic Investment Committee has facilitated the project with a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), potentially reimbursing up to $2,065,000 over 12 years, depending on the company’s performance. Verified by both the Departments of Commerce and Revenue, the project's anticipated return on public funds sits at a healthy 115 percent, suggesting a strong economic benefit for the state. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley noted ongoing interest from international companies like Pelsan, attributing North Carolina’s business-friendly environment and competitive advantages as key factors attracting global business leaders to the state.

Representative John Bell, expressing the local sentiment, noted the significance of the new manufacturing jobs and Pelsan's capital investment. "We welcome this vote of confidence in Wayne County, Goldsboro, and our state overall," Bell said in a press release. The anticipation resonates with Senator Buck Newton, who welcomed Pelsan to the community and cited the project's expected contribution to economic growth and stability in Eastern NC. This development stands on the collaborative efforts of various state and local entities, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and Wayne Community College, among others, all pivotal in securing the advancement of Goldsboro and Wayne County’s economic landscape.
