In a decisive move addressing the critical issue of hospital ownership in Pennsylvania, Governor Josh Shapiro is set to announce a proposal that could change the landscape of private equity's role within the state's health care sector. The announcement directly responds to Prospect Medical Holdings' recent decision to close Crozer Health, a significant medical provider in Delaware County. Governor Shapiro's proposal aims to reform how private equity firms can own and operate regional hospitals, as per the Pennsylvania Government website.
The Governor's forthcoming visit to Delaware County marks an effort not only to introduce this proposal but also to shed light on actions being taken to aid the Crozer Health workforce. In recent weeks, feelings of uncertainty have palpably wafted through the community as employees face the impending closure of a healthcare institution that has long served as more than just a place of employment but a pillar of well-being in the county.
As part of the due diligence and support, the Administration hosted 10 live virtual meetings, providing free employment resources and services, including a job fair in collaboration with Delaware County. This fair featured more than 200 employers and successfully drew in an attendance of over 1,000 hopefuls looking to navigate a future in the wake of the hospital's closure.
