Philadelphia residents should grab their umbrellas and prepare for a soggy day ahead with the National Weather Service Philadelphia forecasting a high likelihood of showers and the potential for thunderstorms this Thursday. The city woke up to fog and mist with a thick layer of humidity at 93%, and visibility trimmed down to five miles—indicative of a day where the only certainty appears to be precipitation.
It's a day of eastern winds, moving at 10 to 15 mph and similarly, temperatures are reluctant to rise beyond a high of 58 degrees; the projection doesn't promise much warmth with chill factors making it feel slightly colder, the NWS Philadelphia reports an approaching front that's pushing in showers and possible thunderstorms after 4 p.m., it's almost guaranteed there will be new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch. As for the night, the forecast spells out a 40% chance of precipitation with scattered showers and thunderstorms before the stroke of midnight, thereafter isolated showers are expected to revisit us briefly between midnight and 2am, while the temperature lowers to around 50.
Moving into Friday, Philadelphians can expect a break from the rain with partly sunny skies, along with a slight increase in temperature with the high near 63. The chance for showers isn't off the table completely, still looming at 30%, particularly post-2 p.m., as specified by the NWS Philadelphia. Winds are forecasted to swing from the east to coming out of the west, at a pace of 5 to 15 mph, which could usher in drier conditions as the day progresses.
The weekend outlook seems promising for outdoor plans; Saturday, we're looking at mostly sunny skies, high near 65, with a persistent west wind around 10 mph, gusts may reach up to 20 mph, Sunday continues this trend with sunny skies and temperatures climbing to a pleasant high near 69, while Memorial Day will provide park-goers and barbecue enthusiasts mostly sunny conditions with the mercury reaching around 73, by nightfall there's a return to a 40% probability of showers kicking in after 8pm on Monday night leading to a mostly cloudy low of about 56 degrees, and this pattern of unsettled weather appears to stick around with Tuesday and Wednesday also expecting a 50% and 40% chance of showers respectively.
