Philly's future is up for discussion, and the locals are invited to weigh in. The Philadelphia City Planning Commission is looking for Community Partners to assist in engaging the public in the latest citywide planning venture, Philadelphia2050: Planning Together. This initiative is set to recalibrate the current comprehensive plan, Philadelphia2035, with an influx of community input and fresh data.

The commission, which is mandated by the charter to uphold the city's comprehensive plan, is set to roll out an updated assortment of recommendations that will shape the decision-making processes of city departments and affiliated agencies. According to an update from the City of Philadelphia's official website, Octavia Howell, Executive Director of the commission, remarked, "Philadelphia2050: Planning Together is our opportunity to come together and think through the ways Philly can adapt to our changing world." She noted the seismic shifts in local real estate, flood events, and pandemic-era lifestyle changes as forces molding the city's trajectory.

Engagement with Philadelphia's populace is a priority, and the Commission is looking to bring in eight Community Partners from a diverse selection of trusted organizations. These groups will be responsible for hosting community events, funneling feedback from residents into the planning process, and ensuring the community's objectives are reflected in the plan. An incentive is on the table for these partners, with a choice between 9-month and 18-month terms, offering $15,000 and $30,000, respectively.

All groups interested in shaping Philly's future are welcome to apply, and the application portal will remain open until May 30. As per the official announcement, the Commission's staff will also host a virtual briefing on the opportunity today. Details on how to apply or recommend a potential Community Partner can be found on the City Fund website.
