Mayor Cherelle L. Parker has a packed weekend ahead, starting with a commemoration event to honor the legacy of Malcolm X, as detailed in the public schedule released for May 17-18. The Mayor is set to join forces with Senator Vincent Hughes and the Urban League of Philadelphia in celebrating 'Men Making a Difference.' This event, set at Pinn Memorial Baptist Church, recognizes 100 men who have chosen to positively impact their community. According to the City of Philadelphia's official announcement, the initiative pays tribute to individuals spanning various ages and backgrounds, all sharing a commitment to community service.
Shortly after, Mayor Parker is slated to join other elected officials and community members at the West Oak Lane Library. In an effort to appropriately recognize the service of Congressman Dwight Evans to the local community, the library will be renamed in his honor. The site, officially to become the "Dwight Evans Library of West Oak Lane," welcomes Mayor Parker to participate in a renaming ceremony that cements the congressman's legacy in a place of learning and growth, standing as a testament to his contributions, as per the City of Philadelphia.
The Mayor's engagements continue into the afternoon as she is set to speak at Northeast Baptist Church. This event is a special one, celebrating Pastor Jonathan A. Mason, Sr.’s 10th Pastoral Anniversary. The faith community at Northeast Baptist Church, along with Mayor Parker, will gather at Mitten Hall to acknowledge a decade of Pastor Mason's spiritual leadership and guidance.
