A small plane crash in west Harris County barely allowed the pilot to walk away from a potentially lethal ordeal. Shortly after takeoff yesterday from West Houston Airport, the aircraft experienced engine failure and crashed in the Addicks Reservoir area, igniting into flames. Despite the dramatic event, the pilot exited the wreckage unassisted and required only precautionary medical attention before returning home the same evening, as KHOU 11 reported.
With the plane going down, it was the Texas Department of Public Safety that located the badly scorched remains in a wooded locale, confirming the sole occupant had emerged astonishingly unharmed. Following the crash, the area was secured by the Houston Police Department, who assisted in home escorting the pilot as per the same KHOU 11 coverage.
Concurrently, the Harris County Sheriff's Office addressed reports of the incident, indicating the pilot managed to extricate himself from the fiery situation and contacted authorities to report the crash. No other passengers were present in the aircraft, and fortunately, no injuries on the ground were reported, as detailed by Click2Houston.
Witnesses near the area described hearing the impact and seeing smoke ascending from among the trees, which according to firefighters, highlighted the severity of the crash. The pilot, still caught in the shock of the crash aftermath, told officers he was not sure what precisely led to the engine's failure. The investigation is being continued by the Texas DPS, which is taking over the case to pinpoint the exact cause of the accident, Click2Houston reports.
