In an incident occurring in Pontiac, Michigan, three children evaded serious injury when a pickup truck crashed into their apartment. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office reported the crash happened at around 12:20 a.m. last Saturday, with an individual later identified as a 36-year-old woman from Pontiac, escaping from the scene, carrying her dog, as detailed by CBS News Detroit.

The children involved—a 13-year-old girl and two 10-year-old boys—were hit by surprise when the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado struck their residence on Firelite Lane near Cherry Hill Drive. They had visited their apartment to retrieve personal items and intended to return across the street to a babysitter's home when the event unfolded, The Detroit News reported. In a desperate escape, the children broke a window to climb out and avoid greater harm.

"Imagine you're sitting in the living room of your home and suddenly the main front door and the window of the front are destroyed by a car blasting into your living room, terrifying three young kids," Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard told CBS News Detroit. Despite the potential for significant injury, the children only suffered "minor scrapes from flying debris," and were treated right at the scene.

In in the wake of the incident, neighborhood residents quickly assisted authorities by pointing out the woman suspected of driving the vehicle to a security guard, who detained her until deputies arrived. Although she denied being the driver and complained of possible injuries, she was taken to a hospital and later arrested on suspicions of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She has since been released from custody pending toxicology test results, according to information compiled by WXYZ News.

The incident is part of a concerning trend, following several recent crashes in the area including a fatal accident in Allen Park and a hit-and-run in Pontiac earlier this month. Alcohol is suspected to have played role in those as well as other recent traffic incidents. The authorities, according to The Detroit News, are awaiting toxicology reports to confirm suspicions in this latest case which could take up to two weeks.
