Two individuals, a postal worker and her partner, are facing legal consequences after being involved in a mail theft scheme that affected Manhattan residents. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office reported that 36-year-old Destiny Anderson and 34-year-old Anthony Johnson pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree for stealing and selling checks and credit cards from the mail.

Anderson, a United States Postal Service employee working as a mail relay truck driver, had access to a significant amount of mail, which she and Johnson took advantage of for personal gain. Between May 14, 2021, and March 10, 2022, the two were involved in stealing financial instruments from the mail, including a check worth over $387,000 and another for $21,500. Johnson, who received a conditional discharge, is scheduled for sentencing on June 27, where he faces a potential state prison sentence of 1.5 to 3 years.

Postal workers like Anderson, who worked at the Radio City Post Office, are given the responsibility of delivering mail. In this case, the stolen financial assets were used for a range of purchases, including items from Yves Saint Laurent, technology from B&H Photo, and goods from Duane Reade and BJ's Wholesale.

While the victims were reimbursed by their banks, the broader impact on public trust in the postal service remains uncertain. The prosecution, led by Assistant D.A.s Benjamin Reed and Alexander Sanyshyn, was supported by officials from the Financial Frauds Bureau and the Investigation Division. Investigative efforts involved the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General and the NYPD's Financial Crimes Task Force. District Attorney Bragg acknowledged the collaborative efforts that contributed to the resolution of the theft case.
