Border Patrol agents made a significant arrest near Brownsville, Texas, as they apprehended Jose Guadalupe Perez-Garza, a Mexican national with a history of serious criminal offenses in the United States. The 53-year-old was taken into custody yesterday morning, according to a report by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Upon processing at Fort Brown Station, it was revealed that Perez-Garza had a previous conviction for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
Notably, this is not the first brush with American law enforcement for Perez-Garza. Having been sentenced in 2013 to a decade of confinement by the 197th District Court of Cameron County, Texas, he already has a recorded history of being deported from the United States on four occasions, only as recently as January 2025 after serving a 41-month sentence for illegally re-entering the country. This revelation surfaced during the diligent processing work carried out by the agents.
Gloria Chavez, Chief Patrol Agent of the Rio Grande Valley Sector, underscored the gravity of the arrest, stating, "This arrest highlights the importance of our border security mission," as reported by the CBP. She went on to add, "Our agents remain vigilant in their efforts to prevent dangerous criminals from entering our communities," signaling the continuous commitment of Border Patrol agents to scrutinizing individuals who may pose a threat to public safety.
In light of his extensive and serious criminal past, Perez-Garza is now facing prosecution for illegal re-entry after deportation. As mentioned in the same report, the act is a considered felony under Title 8 of the U.S. Code.
