A disquieting chapter unfolds in Prince George's County as retired firefighter John Inman, aged 61, stands accused of the sexual assault of a junior firefighter, with charges including second-degree rape and child abuse. Inman, who ended his career with the Prince George's County Fire Department (PGFD) in 2017 and subsequently moved to South Carolina, was taken into custody last Monday. According to court records cited by FOX Baltimore, he has been ordered to remain in jail without bond.

Investigations into the allegations began in July of last year following a report by the victim detailing the assaults, which purportedly originated in 1991 when the victim, then only 13 years of age, met Inman at the Hyattsville Fire Station, the purported site of numerous assaults that stretched over years with various levels of severity, a report by WMAR2 News claims these acts also occurred in multiple other locations including Inman's residence and the University of Maryland's Cole Field House.

Documents from the court elucidate further disturbing activities whereby Inman, then a full-time firefighter, is alleged to have engaged in unwanted sexual acts with the victim at various locales from the firehouse to Inman's home. At one juncture, a counterfeit "firehouse party" at Inman's abode was the ploy used for such deeds, according to information obtained from court documents by FOX Baltimore. Inman has since invoked his Miranda Rights and has refrained from giving further statements without legal counsel present.

The case, as it develops, prompts detectives to seek out individuals possessing potentially relevant information or those who may have also been victimized by Inman, encouraging contact with the Prince George’s County Police Department at 301-772-4930.

Looking ahead, a preliminary hearing for Inman is scheduled for June 17.
