On Tuesday, a Riverside County instructor found himself in handcuffs, facing allegations of sustained abuse of a girl under 10 years of age. Law enforcement officials with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced that 52-year-old Elvin Vereau, a special academic instructor at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, had been arrested, as reported by KTLA. This arrest followed a response by deputies on Sunday to a residence in the Orangecrest neighborhood over reports of a family disturbance. There, they learned about allegations suggesting the employee's involvement in years-long abuse.

According to ABC7, Vereau, employed by the Redlands Unified School District since July 2013, was placed on administrative leave post-arrest. Redlands Unified's Superintendent Juan Cabral conveyed the district's cooperation in the investigation, stating, "We appreciate the swift action taken by the Riverside Police Department and are committed to ensuring that any student who may have been affected receives the support and services they need."

With a bail set at $2 million, Vereau now awaits arraignment on multiple felony charges, as disclosed by the Riverside Police Department. Officer Ryan J. Railsback hinted at the possibility of more victims given Vereau's occupation, "The suspect's a teacher, he's around lots of kids," Railsback said. "And even though he works at a high school and our victim is a child, a minor, there could be some more victims who have not come forward," ABC7 noted.

A post by the Riverside Police Department stated that "These alleged crimes occurred in both Riverside and Redlands, and investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward."
