Sacramento's annual tradition of greening the environment, and saving some water along the way, is back with the Mulch Mayhem event slated for May 17, where local residents can lay their hands on free mulch and compost thanks to the City's efforts. As stated by the Sacramento City Express, William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator, emphasizes the efficacy of mulch in landscaping, stating, "Just a few inches of mulch can make a big difference, especially during the hot, dry summer months."
Mulch offers significant benefits to gardens and green spaces, it curtails the frequency of watering, bolsters soil health, and naturally deters weeds, all of which are crucial in the city's battle against the ever-intense California heat. The giveaway will occur at the Sacramento Marina located at 2710 Ramp Way, starting bright and early at 8 a.m. and wrapping up at noon, or whenever they run out of the goods, the event promises to support locals in their quest for lusher lawns and gardens, as reported by the Sacramento City Express.
Apart from the mulch, attendees of the May 17 event can also receive complimentary bagged compost to further enrich their soil and propagate robust plant growth. This is a move aimed not just at beautification, but at practical and sustainable home landscaping—a push towards a greener Sacramento, according to the Sacramento City Express.
For those willing to pitch in, the City has set up a self-loading station. Just bring your own shovel, containers, and tarp, as Granger advised. If you arrive with a truck or trailer, staff will be there to help load it. It’s a great way to support the community and keep Sacramento thriving through the summer, as per the Sacramento City Express.
