In a recent update from the City of Sacramento, figures from April 21-27 show a steady engagement with the city's homelessness issue. During this period, the city's 311 customer service received 862 calls concerning unsheltered individuals. A statement sourced from Sacramento City Express indicated that the City's Incident Management Team (IMT) was able to close 939 calls. These closures imply that the problems were either solved, compliance was met, or the issue was no longer present upon inspection.
The data provided also details the outreach efforts made by the City's Department of Community Response, which successfully enrolled 90 people into shared local databases. These databases are set up to match homeless individuals with shelters and various resources. Additionally, there were 30 individuals placed into housing options offered by the city, such as the Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC).
However, the report also reveals a pressing lack in immediate housing availability. As of April 29, both the Pallet homes and trailers at the Roseville Road campus were fully occupied, with the OEC having only 21 available spaces. There were an average of 19 openings at City-funded shelters, spaces that do not include those at the Roseville Road campus and OEC. This data reflects a challenging balance between the demand for housing and the resources currently available.
Furthermore, the City's efforts in maintaining sanitation in areas affected by homelessness were not negligible. The cleanup crews managed to clear 186,220 pounds of trash from various sites. More comprehensive insights into the city's actions and progress can be traced through the maintained data dashboard, which offers weekly updates going back to September 2023, documenting the ongoing efforts of the IMT.
For those interested in a detailed breakdown of the actions taken by the City's Incident Management Team, the full weekly report is accessible at the Sacramento City Express website, along with the data dashboard providing an overview of the collective achievements in outreach, compliance, and cleanup regarding the city's homelessness crisis.
