A 56-year-old man with a history of arson convictions has been arrested once again in Glendale, this time for attempting to ignite a fire at a vacant, previously fire-damaged property, according to CBS News Los Angeles. Clarence Schiebel was found with lighters and a jug of gasoline when police arrived at the red-tagged residence on the evening of May 8, following reports of a possible burglary at 1642 S. Central Avenue, a house rendered unsafe from a previous fire.
Schiebel was discovered by police outside the home, then soon taken into custody after he refused to comply with their demands and had to be "physically detained," as per CBS News Los Angeles. Officers found what seemed to be fresh gasoline on the living room floor, and a Pennzoil jug filled with some was located nearby, alongside two lighters in Schiebel’s possession, a scene that paints a disturbingly familiar picture in the context of his known criminal patterns and activities.
Information provided by the City of Glendale reveals that at the time of his arrest, Schiebel was wanted on an outstanding felony arson warrant for $200,000 from the Los Angeles Police Department, and that his past legal troubles include multiple prison terms and a registration as an arson offender. This latest arrest has prompted the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office to charge Schiebel with burglary, attempted arson, and possession of flammable or combustible material, further complicating his already significant criminal history.
