Disturbing findings have come to light at a Jackson, Michigan, ice cream parlor, where the remains of multiple animals were discovered in a freezer behind the business. According to CBS News Detroit, the Jackson Police Department responded to a report of animal cruelty at The Parlour of Jackson. The freezer in question, filled with the suspected animal remains, was part of a garage separate from the main restaurant operation.

Owner Scott Pienta, who had taken over The Parlour only two months prior, had been in the process of trying to get the previous owner to remove their belongings, which included old kitchen equipment and the freezer containing dead animals. Discovered to contain at least seven dogs and other animals missing heads and feet, as reported by WILX, Pienta expressed his feelings about the grisly find, "I was disturbed, I was irritated, and then I’m frustrated that someone could leave those in my business."

The investigation by the Jackson County Animal Shelter and Animal Control has uncovered additional details, including skinned animals without heads or paws, a Patagonian cavy, and some packaged meat that appears store-bought, according to MLive. Necropsies are being conducted on the dead dogs to determine the cause of death, while determining the species of the decapitated animals is still in progress. Lydia Sattler, the Shelter Director, called the case "super bizarre."

Despite the ongoing investigation and the severity of its nature, the Jackson County Health Department maintains that The Parlour's operations are separate from where the freezer was located and that the establishment is in full compliance with health rules. Kristin Pluta, the department’s director, lauded Pienta's commitment to health and safety standards. Even amid the unpleasant revelations, Pienta noted a wave of community support for the establishment, stating in an interview captured by MLive, "Everyone has been coming in to support you. We’re here to support you." Local officials are urging the public to report any suspicions of animal neglect promptly.
