A District man, Andre Clark, age 34, has entered a guilty plea to the charge of second-degree murder while armed in a shooting that occurred in Southeast D.C. last October, resulting in the death of Leonard Taylor, Jr. The guilty plea was officially accepted by Superior Court Judge Todd E. Edelman and accompanies an agreement suggesting a prison sentence ranging between 15 and 20 years followed by supervised release, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia.
During the plea hearing, it was disclosed that on October 20, 2024, Clark left a building on the 1500 block of 19th St. SE and approached a parked gray sedan. Occupying the driver's seat was Taylor. Clark positioned himself by the driver's side window, brandished a firearm, and commenced firing as Taylor attempted to drive away, fatally wounding him in the process. The factual basis for the plea was not contested, and Clark's sentencing is scheduled for July 11, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia.
The case against Clark is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Bromwich and is based on evidence collected and corroborated by the investigative work of the Metropolitan Police Department officers and detectives. The full details of the case and the plea agreement reached with Clark underscore the gravity of gun violence in city streets and the continuing efforts of law enforcement to hold perpetrators accountable. More information regarding the case and the guilty plea can be found on the U.S. Attorney's Office website.
