The State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge reopened following an abrupt closure due to a mechanical malfunction. The critical passage was shut down at 1:02 p.m. yesterday, when the bridge failed to operate correctly during a routine procedure to let a marine vessel pass through, according to an update from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
WSDOT maintenance crews were dispatched to the scene, delving into the intricate task of diagnosing and remedying the issue. The detour via Shelton using SR 3 and US 101 significantly tacked on an additional three hours to journeys. In a statement, the transportation department apologized for the disturbance, stating, "WSDOT is making every effort to reopen the bridge to vehicular traffic as soon as possible and apologizes for the inconvenience this delay poses to travelers," as noted by WSDOT.
For those seeking real-time information, WSDOT urged the public to utilize resources like their mobile app and the WSDOT Travel Map. Additionally, the department encouraged travelers to sign up for email updates on Hoodcanalbridge.com, ensuring that notifications about future closures or disruptions are promptly received.
