The Howard County Police Department, along with County Executive Calvin Ball and the U.S. Marshals Service, have reported the successful capture of suspected murderer William Marshall, III. The 18-year-old was apprehended in connection with the July homicide of Angelo Little, which occurred at the Mall in Columbia. Marshall was taken into custody on May 29 following investigative efforts that led authorities to his Brooklyn, N.Y., residence.
As part of a comprehensive search, the combined team of Howard County detectives, the U.S. Marshals, and the NYPD pinpointed the suspect's location and searched an address in Brooklyn. Their efforts culminated in locating Marshall inside a residence, where he was arrested early in the morning without incident. According to Howard County Police, investigating officers are now probing into whether any individuals may have assisted Marshall in evading the police.
In a statement obtained by Howard County authorities, Police Chief Gregory Der expressed pride in the "outstanding tireless work" of the team involved in the apprehension of Marshall. He highlighted the creativity and determination that led to the arrest, ensuring that those who commit crimes in Howard County are brought to justice. Currently, Marshall is awaiting extradition to Maryland and faces first-degree murder and firearms offenses charges.
Marshall, also known as "Junior," is believed to have specifically targeted 17-year-old Little, who was pronounced dead at the scene on July 27. Detectives continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting, suspecting that Marshall and Little knew each other. Over a period of 10 months, law enforcement followed hundreds of leads and conducted an extensive review of digital evidence, amounting to exhaustive search efforts. County Executive Calvin Ball emphasized the commitment of the police department to public safety and accountability in a statement reported by the Howard County Police Department.
Regarding the arrest, Deputy Commander John Wormley of the U.S. Marshals Service commented on the importance of partnerships with agencies such as HCPD in improving community safety. The effort involved "intensive investigative man hours," indicating the significant dedication that led to the resolution of this case. Authorities are now determining the details related to the eligibility for a combined reward of up to $30,000 from HCPD and USMS for information leading to the arrest.
