
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a shooting that erupted on Monday afternoon in Southeast Washington, D.C., according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident, which thankfully resulted in no injuries, took place at around 4:38 p.m. in the 3000 block of Stanton Road SE, where police officers present in the area were alerted to the situation by the sound of gunfire.
Upon witnessing a vehicle hightailing it from the scene, officers called for backup from MPD's airborne support, Falcon 1, in a bid to safely follow the suspects. The helicopter tracked the car to the 1700 block of West Virginia Avenue, Northeast, where two individuals were seen making a dash into a residence. Subsequently, the police established a perimeter around the home and declared a barricade. In the ensuing hours, members of MPD's Emergency Response Team moved in and managed to coax out the suspects, apprehending them without further conflict.
The official release from MPD details the recovery of the suspects' vehicle and several firearms in connection with the crime. The two apprehended individuals are 19-year-old Michael Brown from Southeast, and 19-year-old Shemar Morris from Northeast, D.C.
They now face a slew of charges, including Endangerment with a Firearm, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Destruction of Property, Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, and Unlawful Entry. The swift actions of the police have once again underlined the force's commitment to swiftly act and safeguard the communities they have sworn to protect. Investigations into this case are ongoing as police work to conclusively piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
