A tragic roadway incident unfolded yesterday afternoon in Monroe County, resulting in one fatality and leaving two others with serious injuries. The crash occurred at approximately 2:48 p.m. on M-50, also known as South Custer Road, east of Strasburg Road in Raisinville Township. CBS News Detroit reported that Hunter Alexander Boyd, a 28-year-old Tecumseh resident, died at the scene after his vehicle swerved into the opposite lane, causing a head-on collision.

Wearing safety belts, a 50-year-old woman from Brooklyn and her 25-year-old passenger were in the other involved vehicle. They got injured after being struck by Boyd's 2015 Ford Focus. According to WTOL, while alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash, further investigations by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office are ongoing to uncover the reason behind Boyd's sudden lane crossing. Norma Jean Hacker, the driver, was hospitalized in serious condition, and her passenger, Gwenyth Kamerielle Ebbert, was listed in critical condition at Toledo ProMedica Hospital.

The aftermath of the crash led to a road closure by the Michigan Department of Transportation, blocking both directions of M-50 between Franklin Boulevard and Plum Grove Drive, as stated by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. By around 7:50 p.m., the road was reopened after causing detours and heavy traffic in the surrounding areas, especially along Dunbar Road, which was congested due to Monroe County’s household hazardous materials drop-off event.

First responders from multiple agencies arrived to assist, including the Monroe Township Fire Department, Ida Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Chaplain Program. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Victim Services was also vital in helping at the scene.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. Any individuals with information are encouraged to call the department at 734-240-7548 to aid in the investigation.
