Two men have been arrested in connection to a shooting that took place on April 28 in Wilmington, according to local authorities. Wilmington Police Department detailed the arrests in a statement, which came after an investigative response to the shooting incident where a 39-year-old man was found critically injured by gunfire.
The victim, identified by police as Omar Brown, and a 19-year-old suspect, Josiah Grimes, were implicated in the events that unfolded on the 700 block of East 10th Street, it was on a busy afternoon when the emergency services were alerted to the violent situation, at roughly 1:34 p.m., Wilmington police officers responded to the scene and quickly secured the area, assisting the wounded individual who was later transported to a local hospital in a critical condition.
Detective Thomas Rittenhouse of the Criminal Investigations Division spearheaded the investigation and, through diligent police work, procured arrest warrants for both Grimes and Brown, as reported by Wilmington Police Department. Brown, despite being a victim of the shooting, was also identified as a suspect, marking a twist in the case's development.
Brown was first to fall into custody last Monday, the arrest being executed smoothly without any complications arising, Grimes, however, remained at large until Thursday when uniformed police officers found him on the 1100 block of Lombard Street and he was taken into custody without incident too.
The exact circumstances surrounding the April 28 shooting, including potential motives and the connection between the two men, have not been publicly disclosed. With the suspects now apprehended, further details may emerge as the case progresses through the legal system.
