Last week's bomb scare at Ventura High School, which sent shockwaves through the community and led to a school lockdown, has culminated in serious legal consequences for two of its students. Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko confirmed that a pair of 15-year-old males are facing felony charges for their alleged roles in the May 2nd incident, where a phone call threatened the presence of a bomb, and a potential shooting on campus, as detailed in a press release.
The charges include making a false bomb threat, conspiracy, and criminal threats. According to the district attorney's announcement, the accused were taken into custody following an investigation by the Ventura Police Department. While the arraignment for one juvenile has been adjourned to May 21, 2025, the other has denied the charges. Their contested hearing is set for May 27.
In the fallout of the threat that provoked fears for the safety of Ventura High School's students and faculty alike, the consequences facing the two minors have highlighted the strict zero-tolerance policy for such actions. "All threats to commit violence on our school campuses will be treated seriously," explained Juvenile Unit Supervisor Maureen Byrne, further emphasizing the district's dedication to the security of educational environments.
The students, whose names have been withheld due to their minor status, remain in custody at the Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard as these proceedings unfold.
