The Wake Forest Police Department is set to pump up the local community spirit with a "Touch-A-Truck" event, all in the name of raising funds for the Special Olympics North Carolina. Kicking off on August 16, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., this family-friendly gathering will take place at The Factory, located at 1839 S. Main St., where attendees, especially the young and young at heart, can get up close with an assortment of rugged vehicles.
According to an announcement made by the Town of Wake Forest officials, gearheads and enthusiasts can look forward to exploring a diverse fleet that includes police cars, fire trucks and even a helicopter, giving visitors a hands-on experience meanwhile there will be a boat, a Humvee, and several military vehicles beckoning for attention—all for a cause that champions inclusivity and celebrates athletic prowess amongst individuals with intellectual disabilities. The entry fee stands modest at $5 per individual and maxes out at $20 for a full family, no matter the headcount, which promises a day of discovery without breaking the bank.
But there's more to the day than the metallic gleam of service vehicles and the chorus of excited chatter as kids clamber into the driver's seats. The Town of Wake Forest Police officers will also be selling 2025 Special Olympics NC Torch Run T-shirts for $25—further fueling the fundraising efforts. Those attending can also expect to indulge in a range of local culinary delights since an array of food and dessert trucks will be rolling up to serve up tasty treats and savory bites.
With all proceeds from the entry fees and t-shirt sales directly benefiting Special Olympics NC, it's a day that promises not just fun and games but also the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause; furthermore, it helps forge stronger police-community relationships by showcasing the human side of the force dedicated to public safety. Whether you're there to support the athletes or simply to satiate a childhood curiosity of honking a fire truck horn, the Touch-A-Truck event is shaping up to be a memorable day for both the Wake Forest community and the heroes of tomorrow it aims to uplift.
