Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources' very own Monica Lileton has recently leveled up her expertise in local government operations. This Recreation Program Manager didn't just kick back with leisurely pursuits; instead, she embraced a hefty 150-hour Municipal and County Administration course from the heralded School of Government at UNC-Chapel Hill. The program, designed to deeply root municipal and county leaders in the intricacies of public sector work, is no walk in the park with topics ranging from local government law to finance, and from employment law to service delivery.
Lileton joins an elite list that includes 126 officials who managed to successfully complete the program this year, becoming part of an impressive lineage of over 3,200 graduates since 1954. Her commitment to broaden her understanding and to further competently serve her community reflects in her active role since April 2014. According to a release from the Town of Wake Forest, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Gardner-Webb University and the CPRP designation, making her a valuable asset in sports and recreation management.
Back at Wake Forest, Monica's role is anything but sedentary. She's the driving force behind four recreational facilities, PRCR special events, and inclusive programming which aim to create a community brimming with opportunities for all residents. Her responsibilities also extend to trailblazing innovative recreational programs and fostering partnerships that pump vitality into Wake Forest's standard of living. Her accolades include the esteemed 2016 Town of Wake Forest Employee of the Year and she's a 2025 graduate of the Town’s Leadership Academy.
The Town of Wake Forest's website beamed about her accomplishments, noting, "As Recreation Program Manager, Monica oversees Wake Forest’s four recreational facilities, PRCR special events, and inclusive programming." They also highlighted her role in "developing innovative community recreation programs, expanding access to adaptive recreation, and building strategic partnerships that enhance quality of life for Wake Forest residents." It's clear that Lileton is committed to not just maintain, but also to continually improve the joy and well-being of her community through her work in recreation.
