The Northeast Community Coalition has joined forces with the Town of Wake Forest to kick things off on June 20, with a community gathering at Taylor Street Park. The commemoration continues into Saturday with a walking parade making its way from Hope House to the historic Dubois School Campus. With a starting point at the corner of East Nelson Avenue and North Allen Road, the parade lineup is set for 9 a.m. Following the parade, participants are invited to take part in the "Freedom Historical Walk," designed to honor and reflect on the journey to freedom. Beginning and concluding at the Dubois School Campus, individuals interested in this poignant walk should assemble at 10:35 a.m. for the immersive experience.
The family-friendly festivities will be held from 1-5 p.m. on the Dubois School Campus and feature an array of free food, live music, and dance groups to entertain the community.
