In the early hours of last Saturday, Washington County's most unusual suspect made a brief escape, prompting a response from local law enforcement that displayed as much patience as it did ingenuity. The Washington County Sheriff's Office shared an amusing account of this incident where the deputies found themselves pursuing an animal, rather than your run-of-the-mill perp. The culprit in question? A pig that had nonchalantly wandered away from its farm.
According to a social media post from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the deputies received a call at 7:32 am and quickly arrived at the scene in the Town of Wayne subdivision. It took not much more than some quick thinking and a lasso for deputies to bring the wandering pig back under control after what they whimsically described as a "brief hoof pursuit" which eventually led to unimpressed porker taking an impromptu dip in a ditch.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office commented that while the story may not be headline material, it still offers "a glimpse into the ingenuity and problem-solving deputies take on." Indeed, the farm animal's escapade required both humor and tact from the officers, who after some time described as "strategic negotiations," successfully managed to return the animal to a safer pen. The lighthearted nature of the engagement is evident in the office's postscript acknowledging the inevitable wave of pig puns from their social media audience.
