This past Sunday marked the beginning of National Correctional Officers Week, an observance taking place from May 4 to May 10, 2025, meant to recognize and honor the efforts of correctional officers across the nation.
Locally, in Waukesha County, festivities kicked off with Jail Administrator Amy Vaughn bestowing a Public Service Award upon the Sheriff's Jail Division. The accolade, given in the name of Sheriff Severson, underscores the appreciation for the department's hard work and steadfast commitment.
The acknowledgment didn't end there—County Executive Paul Farrow delivered a proclamation that highlights the dedication of the correctional staff. "Working in a Correctional facility is not an easy job, and the challenges faced daily require an incredible amount of strength, skill, and courage," reads an excerpt from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department's Facebook post. The social media statement goes on to praise the tireless efforts of the staff in maintaining the safety and security of the facility which by extension, has a positive impact on the wider community.
