West Allis is set to hold a Memorial Day Observation Ceremony on May 26, inviting the community to honor the sacrifices of military service members. The event, starting at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 6900 W. National Ave. will feature a variety of tributes and performances commemorating those who have served the nation. According to the City of West Allis website, attendees can expect a flyover by the Commemorative Air Force Wisconsin Wing and a presentation of colors by the West Allis Police Department Color Guard.

Adding to the ceremony, the Nathan Hale Chamber Choir, under the direction of Kathryn Radiske, will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America." The choir's participation adds a melodic reverence to the day's proceedings. The ceremony will also include speeches, like the City's Tribute by John Gruichich, a student at Nathan Hale, whom Mayor Dan Devine will introduce. Furthermore, the Veterans' Tribute will be delivered by Nathan Bond, Vice Commander of the Wisconsin American Legion and a retired U.S. Army member.

A solemn Post Salute to Departed Comrades will involve local Post Commanders and Auxiliary Presidents. The ceremony aims to provide a poignant moment to remember those who have passed. Prayer will be offered by Chaplain Larry Elliot, a retired Marine Corps Master Sergeant, and a Flag Ceremony organized by Scout Troop 595 will also take place.

Concluding the ceremony will be a rifle salute conducted by members of the American Legion H.A. Todd Jr. Post 537 and VFW Krejci-Braun-Meier Post 7485, followed by "Taps" performed by Phil LaSpisa, a retired officer from the West Allis Police Department.
