The city of Winter Garden could soon be scoring goals in professional soccer as the United Soccer League has teamed up with Central Florida Pro Soccer to champion a new men's team in the area, as announced yesterday. Under the financial wing of Orlando's Federal Finance, Central Florida Pro Soccer has envisioned a $350 million mixed-use haven featuring a 5,000-seat stadium primed for soccer matches and other community events, according to WFTV.
Justin Papadakis of USL spotlighted Winter Garden's family-friendly vibe and its soccer enthusiasm as reasons why it’s an ideal candidate for this venture, while the city's leaders have already kicked off preliminary talks with Federal Finance. However, they're playing the long game as team play isn't expected until the 2027 or 2028 season. These plans hinge on the pace of development negotiations with the city, Tan Bahia told WESH. The proposed 72-acre project, a stone's throw from downtown, not only promises to bolster the local economy but also aims to provide a springboard for local youths to vault into the professional soccer scene.
After finalizing brand details such as team name and colors, Bahia mentioned a six-month timeline until the reveal, emphasizing community engagement as a pivotal part of this process. Central Florida Pro Soccer launched centralfloridaprosoccer.com, making it the go-to hub for future announcements. Certainly, they’re looking to capitalize on soccer's swelling popularity in the U.S., “With games broadcasted nationally and on streaming services, our club will help Winter Garden become known around the world as not only a great place to live but one with a world-class soccer club, too," Bahia expressed, sounding a drumbeat for this sizable investment in both sports and the local community, as WESH reported.
