In a move geared towards easing traffic flow and enhancing safety, the Cumberland County intersection near Gates Four Golf & Country Club is slated for substantial upgrades, courtesy of a $1.2 million project initiated by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Highland Paving Co., a local contractor, has clinched the bid to carry out the much-needed changes.
According to a statement obtained by the N.C. Department of Transportation, the contractor will add a new traffic signal and set up a left-turn lane on each side of Lakewood Drive at Towbridge Road leading into the luxury gated community in addition to this, there will also be a dedicated right-turn lane on Lakewood Drive heading south, to facilitate smoother turns for drivers entering Gates Four.
Lakewood Drive serves as a pivotal route accommodating roughly 13,000 vehicles daily, connecting to vital points like Jack Britt High School to the south, while also providing access to two smaller educational institutions situated at the northern end. This enhancement is expected to address the growing traffic demands in western Fayetteville.
Preparations for the upgrades are underway, with Highland Paving Co. set to commence the work next month, and a deadline set for next summer to complete the improvements, an effort to bolster transportation efficiency in an area that has seen surging vehicle usage, and with the additional lanes and signal, residents and commuters are hopeful for a marked improvement in their daily transit.
