In an experience most could only imagine, Stefanie Kerska, a high school swim coach from Ann Arbor, took to the skies with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels as part of their Key Influencer program. According to WXYZ, the veteran coach was chosen alongside Detroit Red Wings player Alex DeBrincat for their significant contributions to their communities. Kerska, who has led teams to multiple state championships and served on the U.S. swim team's staff at the 2016 Olympics, took the flight as an opportunity to exemplify the courage she encourages in her students.

Pilot Major Scott Laux was at the controls for Kerska's flight, and despite initial technical difficulties that delayed past attempts, the third try was a proverbial charm. Kerska shared her anticipation before her aerial adventure, "I was thinking am I a jinx? You know, is it? Is this not meant to be?" However, once airborne, Kerska described the experience as "intense" with "every incredible feeling all at once," as reported by MLive. Major Laux emphasized the physical demands of flying, noting that the maneuvers they performed are a glimpse into the world of naval aviation combat.

The Thunder Over Michigan Air Show at Willow Run Airport is set to host the Blue Angels, and according to Kevin Walsh, the event's director, this year marks one of the team's rare appearances in the area. "They’ve only been here seven times in the 27 years that we’ve had the show. They only go to 32 show sites around the world each year," Walsh told FOX 2 Detroit. The show serves as the main fundraiser for the museum linked to the airfield, with an impressive crowd of nearly 75,000 attendees anticipated over the course of the event.

While the weekend shows have sold out, eager fans can still snag tickets for Friday's show. The event promises to be a spectacle of precision flying and a celebration of the skills naval pilots bring to combat situations. It's an experience that influencers like Kerska and DeBrincat have had the unique opportunity to witness firsthand, encapsulating the spirit of what visitors can expect from the high-flying performances.
