Arlington, Texas, gears up to celebrate Independence Day with a full week of festivities kicking off on June 28 and culminating on July 5. Aptly dubbed "The American Dream City," Arlington is showcasing its patriotic spirit with a lineup of events that offers something for everyone, as per the City of Arlington.
The early birds get a head start on June 28 with "Stars & Stripes on the Lawn" from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Arlington Highlands. The event, touted by the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau, features bubble stations, glitter tattoos, and various treats, with a showcase of local shops. On July 3 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., "Light Up Arlington" illuminates the Levitt Pavilion and Downtown Library with live music and a community-centric fireworks display—free for the public.
Phlebotropy enthusiasts and sports fans alike can revel in a good cause at the Carter BloodCare Blood Drive at AT&T Stadium on July 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first 1,000 donors score a special bonus—a ticket to a Cowboys preseason game—as the venue plays host to a unique 4th of July celebration. That evening, the Dallas Wings take on the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. for a nostalgic Throwback Thursday theme night at College Park Center—a nod to Americana through the lens of sport.
The merrymaking continues on July 4 with the storied Arlington Independence Day Parade showcasing floats and marching bands starting at 9 a.m. Following is the Arlington Firecracker 5k, where athletes and onlookers can enjoy the downtown course. The National Medal of Honor Museum throws its own "FreedomFest" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., inviting attendees to partake in patriotic and family-friendly events. Celebrations also include the "Texas Live! Freedom Friday," offering perks for military and first responders at 8 p.m., and Six Flags Over Texas holds its "Star-Spangled Nights" with fireworks on both July 4 and 5.
