A somber mood hangs over the Hilltop neighborhood after a fatal shooting claimed one life last Saturday afternoon. Columbus Police have confirmed the arrest of 46-year-old Arnulfo Aguirre-Ramos in connection with the violence that erupted on the 200 block of South Eureka Avenue, as reported by WBNS. The arrest was made without incident Sunday morning, a day after the incident.
Authorities responded to a call at approximately 3:35 p.m. the day of the shooting, and the victim—who has yet to be publicly identified pending family notification—was transported to the hospital but pronounced dead by 4:08 p.m., as per details from a Columbus public safety dispatcher. Aguirre-Ramos faces charges of murder and is currently detained at the Franklin County Jail, NBC4i reports. The investigation is ongoing, and officials encourage anyone with information to step forward.
Residents of the area expressed their dismay and shock at the day's events. Ronald Biegler, a long-time resident of Terrace Avenue, told FOX28, "I'm like 'wow,' so we came out and all the neighbors are out and we're all just standing here watching trying to you know see what's going on."
Another neighbor, Ross Rosenblum recounted his experience, "Then we hear all these cops come by and see all this tape and they were looking for him at a couple houses down and hopefully we'll find him soon," according to the aforementioned FOX28 interview. As the community recoils from the aftershock of this incident, the tribulations of the neighborhood are perhaps a reflection of broader societal issues requiring attention and action.
