Baltimore locals can expect a week of high pressure and clear skies, with a break in the pattern towards the weekend when thunderstorms may roll in. According to the National Weather Service, the high pressure is slated to remain the dominant weather influencer through much of the week.

Today's forecast is all about sunshine with below-normal temperatures. Expect highs in the low to mid 70s, although it will be cooler in the mountains. There's a visual quirk in the mix, however. The sky might take on a milky appearance due to upper-level smoke from Canadian wildfires. The smoke isn't expected to reach ground level, but it will affect the sky's hue. Nighttime will bring clear conditions with temperatures dropping into the upper 40s to low 50s.

Looking ahead to Monday and Tuesday, the forecast discussion suggests a slight warm-up. As the trough begins to depart, temperatures will nudge into the mid-70s, and overnight lows will hover in the 50s. By Tuesday, the arrival of a strong upper-ridge will push temperatures above normal, with highs expected in the mid-80s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Midweek heralds the onset of a Bermuda high-pressure system, bringing very warm temperatures Wednesday through Thursday. Highs will be in the middle 80s to near 90, widespread on Wednesday, according to the forecast. Thursday could see even hotter conditions, before things take a turn Thursday night with possible convection leading into a potentially "unsettled" weekend laden with showers and thunderstorms.

As for aviation interests, VFR conditions are predicted through Thursday night, with wind gusts calming by afternoon. Pilots should note that thunderstorm chances will creep back into the equation on Thursday, primarily west of the Blue Ridge. Marine conditions will also reflect this weather pattern, with winds predicted to stay below Small Craft Advisory criteria after Sunday morning.
