The Baltimore community has rallied in support of the family of Lt. Mark Dranbauer, a firefighter who tragically lost his life after suffering a medical incident while on duty. A recent fundraiser held at Jimmy's Famous Seafood raised approximately $20,000 for the family, as reported by CBS News Baltimore. Lt. Dranbauer, who had served the Baltimore City Fire Department for 23 years, is survived by a young child who recently graduated from kindergarten.
During a harrowing incident on May 12, Lt. Dranbauer fell while on an aerial ladder, resulting in him being pronounced brain dead four painful days later. According to the Baltimore City Fire Department Chief James Wallace, as reported by WBAL-TV, Lt. Dranbauer was taken off life support at Shock Trauma. In a final act of service, Lt. Dranbauer continued his legacy of helping others through organ donation, potentially saving up to 70 lives.
John Minadakis, co-owner of Jimmy's Famous Seafood, was quoted as saying in a statement given to WBAL-TV that "Unfortunately, we're kind of used to it now. This is our fourth one. The Baltimore City Fire Department just keeps losing people tragically." Despite the somber reality faced by the firefighting community, the event captured a spirit of camaraderie and remembrance, featuring a buffet, unlimited drinks, and various attractions, including a DJ, auctions, and guest appearances.
