Johns Hopkins has now confirmed that approximately 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel leaked into the harbor, however, officials have assured that there has been no damage to drinking water or air quality in the surrounding region, moving from an emergency to a more controlled remediation response with cleanup crews backed by Johns Hopkins continuing their operations through the expected inclement weather over the weekend which may have aggravated the situation but measures have been put into place to mitigate against the further spread of fuel.
As the cleanup proceeds, regular Harbor Connector #1 Line service has been halted—affecting the commute between Maritime Park and Locust Point—until that uncertainty can be resolved, with Harbor Connector Routes 2 and 3 remaining active for transit patrons. Local water traffic will also need to adapt, as caution has been advised to avoid the area ranging from Harbor Point to Henderson's Wharf, to prevent impeding the extensive cleanup process. At the same time, the Charm City Circulator's new shuttle service aims to assist displaced Connector passengers, offering an alternative path from Fleet and Caroline to Key Hwy and Hull Street.
