As the vibrant AFRAM festival approaches, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation is putting in place several road closures around Druid Hill Park. Festivities run from June 21 to 22, but street adjustments will begin earlier on June 20 at 10 a.m., lasting through the weekend until approximately noon on June 23, according to WMAR 2 News. Motorists and area residents are advised to plan their commutes accordingly, with access to essential facilities, including the Boy Scouts of America and Johns Hopkins Institute for Assured Autonomy, as well as the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, being maintained despite closures.
In preparation for the expected influx of attendees, parking logistics have been outlined with limited on-site parking available on a first-come, first-served basis at locations like Taylor’s Grove, Mansion House Lawn, and several other designated areas, as detailed by FOX Baltimore. Provisions for ADA-accessible parking are in place at the East Drive lot, with festival-goers being encouraged to make use of transit options or rideshare services to ease their journey into the heart of the celebration.
To further aid festival attendees in navigating the road closures and parking situation, free shuttle services are provided by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), and Charm City Circulator (CCC), this partnership has created two shuttle routes designed to shuttle people efficiently from Mondawmin Mall to the festival heart with several key stops along the way. These stops include Liberty Heights, Swann Drive near Beechwood Drive, and the CCC Purple Route at 27th Street.
For those opting for public transit, multiple MDOT MTA bus lines service Mondawmin Station, and the Light RailLink offers an easy transfer to the CityLink Lime or Yellow lines, ensuring visitors can reach AFRAM with minimal hassle. Designated rideshare drop-off and pick-up zones, as well as scooter parking areas, are streamlined to handle transportation needs.
