Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott is reporting continued success in his city's battle against crime, with new figures showcasing a significant drop in homicides and non-fatal shootings. According to an announcement, Baltimore has experienced a 23.6% decline in homicides and a 23.4% decrease in non-fatal shootings over the past month, marking the fewest instances in the first five months of any recorded year.

In a statement by the City of Baltimore Mayor’s office, Mayor Scott emphasized that Baltimore's progress is a result of comprehensive efforts and collaborative action, "This continued progress shows that our strategy to build a safer, better Baltimore is working," Mayor Scott said noting the work of various stakeholders in this concerted approach, however, he was quick to add that "this is not a time for celebration" acknowledging that any instance of violence is a setback in the larger aim to eradicate the city’s epidemic of violence.

Under Mayor Scott's tenure, the city has not only seen reductions in violent crimes but also in other types of crime. Since last year, Baltimore has recorded a 33% decrease in auto thefts, a 22% decrease in robberies, a 19% decrease in arson, and an 11% decrease in carjackings. Since 2020, homicides have declined by 40% and nonfatal shootings have declined by an impressive 43%, progress that city officials attribute to Mayor Scott’s Comprehensive Violence Prevention Plan and the broad-based support among the community and law enforcement.
