Baltimore has grappled yet again with the scourge of carjackings, with the most recent episode early Thursday morning involving two teenagers. As FOX Baltimore reported, the incident occurred in the 3900 block of Fernhill Avenue at around 3:40 a.m., where a 46-year-old man was thrust into the harrowing ordeal of an armed carjacking by three individuals. The suspects, pursued by the Baltimore Police, were later found that evening near the intersection of Guilford and East Baltimore Street.
Law enforcement, upon spotting the stolen vehicle, moved to intercept assertively, but the suspects attempted to evade capture. After a brief chase, officers successfully apprehended two of the suspects, both of whom were adolescents. According to WBALTV, "the occupants got out of the car and tried to run off" before police arrested them. The nature of the incident suggests an alarming trend of youth involvement in violent crimes within the city.
The two teens, aged 15 and 16, now face serious charges in connection with the carjacking. The elder of the two was processed as an adult, facing armed carjacking and armed robbery charges, and was sent to the Central Booking Intake Facility. His accomplice, one year his junior, was also charged with identical crimes and remanded to the Juvenile Justice Center.
