The city of Baltimore has again found itself reeling from another episode of violence after 25-year-old Karin Redfern was arrested and charged with both first and second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Demetri Briscoe, 26, according to Fox Baltimore. Police responded to a call pertaining to an armed individual in the 3000 block of Westfield Avenue on Sunday, where they came upon a scene sans victim, only to learn a short time later that Briscoe was seeking treatment at a nearby hospital but, despite medical efforts, was pronounced dead.
As the Baltimore Police Department works to establish the framework of the case tragedy unfolds in its wake and the Briscoe family tries to navigate the quagmire of grief and loss; Daily Voice reports family member CJ Hodges stating, "Our family is grieving a tragic loss," and boldly articulates the void now carved within "This morning, our lives were changed forever. We’re heartbroken to share that our son’s life was tragically taken. There are no words that can describe the pain and shock our family is feeling right now."
Findings from the ongoing investigations suggest that Briscoe's death was the consequence of a quarrel that escalated to violence ending in his stabbing incident; he was taken promptly to the hospital yet succumbed to his injuries. The authorities have moved Redfern to the Central Booking Intake Facility with charges hanging over her, and further inquiries are invited from the public who might possess relevant information that can be submitted anonymously to Metro Crime Stoppers, as detailed by Fox Baltimore.
Amidst this sorrow, a GoFundMe campaign echoes the grievance and the sudden financial imposition of a funeral with Tracy L. Cox describing Briscoe as a beacon snuffed out too soon, "At just 26, he had so much life ahead of him, so many dreams left unfulfilled, so much love still to give," according to Daily Voice, the campaign pleads for community support, "No family is ever prepared for such a devastating loss, and during this time of unimaginable grief, we are also facing the overwhelming cost of laying Junior to rest," while urging those unable to donate to share the campaign, "If you are unable to give, sharing this fundraiser would mean the world to us," and calling for thoughts and prayers through this agonizing chapter.
