Boulder County Human Services is reaching out to local organizations with an opportunity to support the disabled community through newly available funding. A Request for Applications (RFA) has been announced for programs that assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), autism, or brain injury. Eligible applicants can secure funds to create or enhance services that promote greater access, inclusion, and opportunity for these communities.

As reported by Boulder County, findings from the Boulder County IDD Needs Assessment have shaped this RFA. The assessment, drawn up in 2018 from feedback of underserved groups, including people of color and aging caregivers, indicated a pronounced need for both more direct services and for inclusive social and recreational options.

Contributing to the cause is the IDD Mill Levy, a voter-approved funding source since 2002 in Boulder County, which is providing approximately $500,000 to address service gaps not met by state or federal programs. This move is a concerted effort towards crafting a society that espouses fairness and equal opportunity for its disabled members.
