Charlotte County has notched an impressive array of accolades, securing 31 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for 2025, cementing its reputation for excellence in county government services. The honors come on the heels of significant challenges, not least of which were the devastating storms that swept through in 2024. Confirming this commitment to innovation and service, Charlotte County Administrator Hector Flores told Charlotte County, "Even as we're still recovering from the terrible storms we endured in 2024, county staff showed resiliency and innovation by creating new programs, leveraging technology to improve productivity and employing best practices to deliver programs and services."
Setting the standard for county governments, NACo annually acknowledges excellence across 18 diverse categories, from children and youth to criminal justice, and from public health to civic engagement. Each application, reviewed for its intrinsic value, does not face competition from its peers but is instead evaluated on its unique contributions. As reported by Charlotte County, NACo President James Gore highlighted the significance behind the awards, stating, "The Achievement Awards shine a spotlight on the hard work and innovation happening in county governments across the nation."
While the complete list of the programs and initiatives that garnered the awards was not immediately disclosed, it is understood that a broad spectrum of services and disciplines has been recognized. According to the program's inception in 1970, these awards are meant to celebrate the progressive problem-solving approaches and forward-thinking policies that set apart today's county governments.
James Gore acknowledged the core mission of the awards in a statement that captures the spirit of the accolades: "This year's winners highlight the dedication and creativity of county leaders and our teams to building thriving communities and providing the best possible services to our residents."
