An outing on Star Lake in Putnam County turned tragic when a tubing accident resulted in the death of one child and injuries to two others. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is spearheading an investigation into the crash, which unfolded near 115 Star Lake Drive yesterday afternoon, according to a report by First Coast News.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the children, aged 8, 10, and 11, were thrown from a tube being pulled by a Sea-Doo when the group struck an unidentified object, possibly a dock. Two of the children were taken to a the hospital, with one of them succumbing to their injuries. The third child involved in the incident was able to walk away unharmed. This chain of events was also described by WCJB, which reported on the ages of the children and the initial response by rescue crews.
The FWC, in conjunction with local deputies, was quick to respond to the scene following reports of the boating accident. While the FWC has yet to provide details on the precise sequence of events that led to this fatal outcome, the incident prompted a robust response from local emergency services, as documented by News4JAX.
A spokeperson from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office did not respond to requests for additional comments after hours, but efforts to reach out remain ongoing, and further updates are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
