Denver's Bike to Work Day is set to kick off tomorrow morning, providing an energizing start for participants with its largest breakfast station yet. Those cycling their way to the office can take a well-deserved break in front of the Denver City and County Building on Bannock Street. From 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., cyclists will be treated to complimentary Santiago's breakfast burritos and a selection of beverages while enjoying the communal spirit that bicycling advocates and Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) have fostered. People can also take part in activities ranging from scooter and e-bike test rides provided by Lime and Bird to learning about bicycle registration with the Denver Police Department, according to the City and County of Denver.
As part of the event, DOTI is ready to share the strides it's made with its Denver Moves: Bikes plan, an initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s network of bikeways. The plan, last revised in 2015, has been updated to incorporate community insights alongside thorough data analysis. This vision for a future bicycle network intends to guide investment towards more well-connected and rider-friendly bikeways and the upgrade of existing ones. "The plan will help guide investments to build more comfortable and connected bikeways and upgrade Denver’s existing bikeways over time," as noted by the City and County of Denver.
Festivities will incorporate informative sessions, such as an overview from DOTI on new findings from an evaluation of bikeway treatments. These assessments measure how effective the current infrastructure is at reducing traffic speeds and volumes in residential areas, creating safer pedestrian crossings, and slowing vehicles at intersections. Insights from this evaluation are expected to shape the development of future bikeway designs and can be found in detail in the evaluation report available for download on the official Denver government site.
