Denver's community of animal lovers and tattoo enthusiasts has something to look forward to this weekend. The city's shelter pets are about to get a boost from those willing to wear their support on their sleeves - literally. The Denver Animal Shelter (DAS) is collaborating with Think Tank Tattoo for the Tats for Tails event, a fundraising day where patrons can get a permanent symbol of their love for animals, according to the Denver Animal Shelter. The event is set for this Saturday, June 28, offering attendees the chance to choose from a selection of over 100 animal-themed tattoo designs.
The costs are clear: for a $200 donation, you can get inked and support the welfare of shelter animals. "This event is such a fun way to show off your love for animals while giving back to the shelter,” said Melanie Sobel, DAS Director, as per Denver Animal Shelter. Last year, the event saw an enthusiastic turnout with significant queues forming as supporters raised $12,000. The shelter, which takes in nearly 10,000 lost and abandoned pets annually, will once again benefit from all proceeds raised. The gathering also promotes community involvement, as those who get tattoos leave with a "permanent reminder of the difference you made," said Sobel.
The one-day event details are straightforward: it takes place at Think Tank Tattoo, located at 172 S. Broadway in Denver, from noon to 6 p.m., and is on a first-come, first-inked basis. The tattoos are pegged at a flat rate of $200, and it's cash only, so attendees are encouraged to hit the ATM beforehand and bring along extra for a tip. The shelter recommends marking your calendars and spreading the word to raise more awareness and funds for the animals in need.
